Wow Your Range Buddies with These 4 Uncommon Types of Guns
Have your range buddies ever shot a striker fired 1911? They might have used a hunting rifle, but what about a modern precision bolt action rifle? What about a pistol caliber carbine? There are all sorts of unique firearms, and when you own out-of-the-ordinary guns that the average shooter has never tried, you get the opportunity to impress everyone. Here are a few firearms sure to wow your range buddies.
An AR Meant for Distance
Chances are, your range buddies have only used a regular AR. Standard
length, standard furniture, nothing fancy or special. The MK12 rifle
changes that. It looks nearly the same as a standard AR, but it has a
few key upgrades. First, it has a longer stainless steel barrel at 18
inches. It also has a rifle-length gas block and a free-floating quad
Picatinny handrail. This adds weight, helping tame recoil. It doesn’t
touch the barrel, which helps preserve barrel harmonics and is a factor
for improving accuracy. In short, the MK12 is meant to be more accurate
over longer distances than a typical AR out of the box.
A Striker Fired 1911
Many shooters have experience with 1911 handguns, but striker fired
1911s are a step above. With an internal striker mechanism, the pistol
has a lower bore axis, making target acquisition, especially
reacquisition, much easier. The recoil is also more straight back
instead of up, contributing to faster, more accurate follow-up shots. It
will make your range buddies rethink the classic 1911, and even if they
already own a traditional 1911, they might add this new version to
their wish list.

A Tactical Pistol Caliber Carbine
If you want to school your range buddies during a tactical drill, use a PCC 9MM.
It has all of the ergonomics that you (and your range buddies, of
course) love in an AR, but handles and shoots much quicker. That’s the
benefit of being chambered in 9MM. It’s lighter, however, that doesn’t
make it any less accurate, and it’s easy to shoot. Find one with a cold
hammer forged barrel for enhanced accuracy. It’s certain to wow your
range buddies, especially if you get one with a fully ambidextrous
lower, making it easy for any of your range buddies to give it a try.
A Precision Bolt Action Rifle
Shooting a hunting rifle is one thing; shooting a rifle purpose-built
for precision is quite another. Settle in the bipod, press your cheek
into the adjustable cheek rest, line up your shot, and you can hit the
target almost automatically. You can find rifles that are
built-to-order, with a guarantee of shooting .75 MOA or better. Even
newer shooters can be accurate with a purpose-built precision bolt
action rifle.
