3 Tips for Preparing for a Successful Hunting Season
Whether you’re planning to hunt pronghorn antelope in the summer or have
your sights set on white-tailed deer in the fall, there are things you
can do right now to get ready for the next hunting season. No matter
what kind of game you’re interested in, taking steps to prepare can set
you up for a successful hunt.
These steps might start with taking stock of your current hunting rifles. Now can be a good time to get a new rifle, like a 308 AR
rifle, or something similar. Here are a few reasons it might be time
for a new hunting rifle, along with some other tips to help you prepare
for hunting season.
Consider Adding an AR10 Rifle to Your Gun Safe
An AR10 rifle can be a reliable and versatile firearm to have in your
gun safe and might become your go-to hunting rifle. Take a 308
Winchester caliber AR10 rifle, for example. If you’re after antelope,
deer, elk, or other similar game, the 308 caliber is perfect.
You can find options with 18-inch barrel lengths, which can offer
accuracy in the field. You can also find options with included
free-floating rail systems and quick-disconnect points for further
versatility. While some hunters may have concerns about the weight of an
AR10 (they can clock in around 8 pounds), the tradeoffs can be well
worth the investment.
Customize Your Hunting Rifles to Better Meet Your Needs
If you’ve just purchased a new hunting rifle or you're taking stock of
your current rifles, now is a great time to customize those rifles (or,
at least, those you’re hunting with). This might include investing in a
new shoulder strap, updating the sights or optics, or even swapping out
parts.
If you’re eyeing a new AR10 hunting rifle or have
already picked one up, you might consider customizing it. Just as you
can upgrade an AR15 with a new AR15 upper receiver
group, you can take a similar approach to an AR10. If it’s a new gun,
you may want to change the grip or pick up additional rail parts.
Spend Extra Time at the Range
Even if you’re already experienced in handling firearms, practice can
sharpen your skills further. The gun range is a valuable asset as you
prepare for the upcoming hunting season, even if it’s still months away.
If you decide to pick up a new rifle, it gives you a chance to get a
feel for how it shoots, so you aren’t surprised out in the field.
Plus, it’s always a great excuse to break out other firearms you haven’t shot in a while, whether it’s a 22 pistol, a 9MM PCC,
or an AR15 rifle. You can put your guns through their paces while
sharpening your skills. Then, when you’re ready to head out for the
hunt, you can aim and fire with that much more confidence.
