Are You Ready for the Fall Hunting Season?

The fall hunting season is a few months out, but it’s never too early to get ready. You can start by breaking out the maps to plot out your hunt. If your hunting spot isn’t too far away, it might be worthwhile to make a summer trip and spend the weekend getting familiar (or refamiliarizing yourself) with the terrain.

Now is also a great time to pick up a new hunting rifle. If you’ve been eyeing a 308 AR 10 rifle or something similar, why not spend some time with one before finalizing your decision? Here are a few things to do over the next few months to prepare for the fall hunting season.

Break Out Your Hunting Rifles for Maintenance

It’s not uncommon for hunting rifles to stay stored in the gun safe for extended periods of time. While you might take them out for target shooting occasionally, most of their usage happens on the hunt. Spend some time this summer getting your rifles in top shape. Break them down, clean them inside and out, oil necessary parts, and so on.

It’s also a great time to check older parts for wear and tear. For a lot of hunting rifles, it’s easy enough to source new, high-quality parts. If you’re an AR15 owner, you may have even swapped out an AR15 upper receiver group a time or two, so you know the drill! Replacing and upgrading parts of your hunting rifles (like your ARs) can ensure they perform flawlessly, and won’t let you down out in the field.

Take Your Rifles to the Range

When was the last time you took your hunting rifles to the range? If it’s been a while, it’s time to change that. This can help you address any issues that might crop up. Don’t forget to bring along other guns for the ride, too! Did you recently get a new pistol-caliber carbine? Bring it! A 9MM PCC can be a great gun to bring to the range for target practice and break up the monotony of shooting the same hunting rifle for hours on end.

Stock Up on Ammunition

Are your hunting rifles chambered in a caliber you don’t normally shoot? If that’s the case, it might be time to stock up on the relevant ammo. It’s not fun to realize you're low on ammo as you’re getting ready to leave for the hunt. Stock up now, and that’s one less thing to do before heading out of town this fall.
