3 Parts That Can Make Your Rifle Build More Accurate
Are you building your own rifle? There are certain parts you want to pay
attention to when it comes to getting the most accurate rifle possible.
You might have different upper receiver options for an AR15 build,
but which parts matter the most? Here are a few components and the
features you should consider to help hit the mark time after time.
The Barrel
The first part to look at is the barrel. Whether it’s a large-caliber rifle or something like the Daniel Defense® 9MM PCC rifle,
the upper receiver is built around the barrel. Not all barrels are made
equal; the Daniel Defense® PCC, for example, has a cold hammer forged
barrel. It’s made using a special machine and process that results in a
more accurate and durable barrel than what you may find from different
manufacturers. It’s priced at a premium, but the performance makes it
well worth the investment.
The Handguard
The next part to consider is the handguard. For the most accuracy, you want a free-floating handguard. It doesn’t touch the barrel, which means it won’t affect the barrel’s natural harmonics when a shot is fired, resulting in better accuracy. You can also choose whether you want a quad Picatinny rail, like the one found on a Block 2 M4, or an M-LOK rail. The former is heavier and can help with muzzle rise and felt recoil, while the latter is lighter and better for maneuverability. The good news is that both configurations provide ample space for accessories, so you can tailor your rifle to your specific needs.
The Muzzle Device
Finally, consider which muzzle device you want to use. The classic flash hider is likely the first that comes to mind, but you also have effective alternatives, such as a compensator or muzzle brake. These vent the gases in different directions. The compensator, for example, vents gas upward, helping to combat muzzle rise so you stay on target. This means better accuracy and follow-up shots.
