Should You Invest in a Suppressor for Your AR10 Hunting Rifle?

The AR10 is among the top field-use rifles. If you don’t use an AR10 for hunting, you might be missing out! AR10s, like 308 AR rifles, are highly adaptable, durable, and offer incredible accuracy, perfect for hunting.

But what if you could make the AR10 an even better hunting rifle? For many, adding a suppressor enhances their hunting experience. If it’s legal to own and hunt with a suppressor in your state, here are a few things to consider before picking one up.

Get More Control Over Every Shot

Do you want more precise control over your AR10 hunting rifle? A suppressor can be essential in making that happen. Just like many AR15s, like a top-quality M4A1 rifle, you can find AR10s designed and built for precision. And in the field, every bit of precision matters.

One of the primary benefits of a suppressor is reducing recoil. You’ll still get recoil, but this reduction can give you more control with every shot, allowing you to retake aim and fire more quickly, should a follow-up shot be necessary.

Reduce Your Noise Level

Many animals are attuned to the noises of the forest and field. Everything from a crunched leaf to a heavy sigh can send an animal fleeing. This also includes the concussive discharge of a rifle. A suppressor helps cut that concussive blast down significantly, potentially keeping your quarry in sight.

No, it won’t reduce noise by 100%. No suppressor will do that. However, it can help reduce noise in your immediate vicinity and minimize echo (especially in gullies) that can startle animals. Even so, using ear protection is still recommended with a suppressor.

What About Accuracy?

Will a suppressor make your hunting rifle more accurate? Generally speaking, no. Adding a suppressor isn’t like swapping out the barrel for a longer barrel, like you might do by adding a longer, lightweight AR15 upper receiver to an AR15 build. A suppressor is a different story.

If you find that your AR10 hunting rifle isn’t accurate, it can be beneficial to have the gun looked at. You can also re-zero your sights/optics and go from there. It can also be useful to spend extra time at the range, which is always recommended for anyone who wants to keep their skills sharp.
